The adjective romantic covers a long era of literature and art. 17th century died in 1784 so it starts in 1785. 1830 is roughly the time major authors were dead or out of business. Many: the french revolution (1789-1799), the political revolution, many historians agree romantic period sprung out of political and creative revolutions. Authors like wordsworth and shelley saw hope in french revolution: bourgeoisie, bourgeoisie = middle class. Middle class and clergy come together against the throne. High prices in bread set revolution in motion. This is as if gas prices go up to 7$ a gallon: 14 july 1789, the bastille, an old fortress used as a prison, filled with monarchies political prisoners. Mob stormed the bastille and attack prison guards to free some prisoners: the great fear, spread across france, the declaration of the rights of man, 26 august 1789.
