Document Summary

Prokaryotic: karyon = kernel, nucleus, pro- before, ~ 0. 1-5 m. Eukaryotic: eu- true, has a nucleus, membrane bound cells, some have cell walls, which domains, eukaryotic, ~ 10-100 m. Cell (cid:448)olu(cid:373)e i(cid:374)flue(cid:374)(cid:272)es rates of (cid:373)eta(cid:271)olis(cid:373), (cid:449)aste e(cid:454)(cid:272)retio(cid:374), et(cid:272). High sa-v ratio: high metabolic rate, high growth rate, faster generation times. Prokaryotes have high sa-v: bacteria grow fast. But : cell walls, hyphae, cells not truly separated, has septa, multinucleate cytoplasm, primitive growth, fast transport, rapid growth rate, only chytrids have flagella. Bacteria: cocci- spherical, bacilli- rods, spirilla- spirals. Plant cells: square, round, stone cells, sclerenchyma, algae. Fungal: spores, branching hyphae, yeast cells, fuzzy mold colonies, smooth colonies. Cell walls: bacteria- peptidoglycan, fungi- chitin, plants- cellulose. Test- a loose fitting shell of an amoeba. Also found on sea urchins, foraminiferans, and radiolarians: deri(cid:448)es fro(cid:373) lati(cid:374) (cid:862)testa(cid:863) (cid:449)hi(cid:272)h is a rounded bowl, amphora, or bottle. Is a skeletal structure made of calcium carbonate, silica, chitin, or composite materials.
