Ideal: ought, a discrepancy results in negative emotions, actual ideal - dejection, actual ought - agitation. Self-expansion theory: basic motivation to grow and improve, bonding incorporates their strengths, resources, and knowledge. Inclusion of other in self scale: we use impression management to get what we want, brain damage can limit self presentation ability.
