Today many of these styles are still popular and continue to be practiced and taught. After the 1950s dancers such as katherine dunham added a african- Caribbean influence and turned it into a performing art. Tap dance broke off on its own evolutionary path. Jazz dance also evolved on broadway with new smooth style. Jazz on broadway was popularized by choreographers such as jerome. Modern jazz dance is still popular and is still a foundation of musical. Theatre , and popular dance as seen in music videos and hip hop. One thing that has been a constant is its inclusion of popular music of the current era.
