Document Summary

Perfect authentic is in root position and the i chord has the tonic as the soprano. Imperfect authentic can be in inversions, vii can be substituted for v. Like question mark in music, instead of a period. V-vi also, does not usually end a piece. 6-v non-chord tones tones that are not part of the chord. Approach the non-chord tone and continue in the same direction in stepwise motion (no leaps) Move up or down in stepwise motion to the non-chord tone, and then come back to the same note. (no leaps) A step to a non-chord tone, and then a leap to a chord tone. A leap to a non-chord tone, and then a step to a chord tone. A chord tone held over to the next chord so that it is a non-chord tone, and then resolves by step down to the chord. Like a suspension, but resolves up instead of down by step.
