Document Summary

A buffer lessens ph perturbations when acids or bases are added. A buffer is a weak acid/weak base combination. If i want ph to be held constant at 4. 8, then i will choose acetic acid. If i want ph to remain constant at 9. 3 then i will choose ammonium. When an acid reacts with a base, the properties of each are neutralized and the products are water and a salt. Buffering range when you change the base a lot but the ph isn"t changing much. Ammonia is used for gas; with a little bit of pressure though it can turn into a liquid.
