Document Summary

Criminal justice chapter 6 policing and the law. Police are faced with impossible expectations: crime prevention, crime detection. -> human intelligence and make it ultra-high performance. Everyone is potentially dangerous (police needs to be on guard when meeting new people) Experience is better than abstract rules must be in touch of the real world. You must make people respect you (if people are afraid they will respect you) Legal system is not trustworthy: cops make the best decisions about guilt or innocence. Unless police are mean then people will be willing to break the law. Officers know they must appear respectful and efficient. I may not be able to prove that you are responsible but we both know you did it so what do we do. They gotta prevent crimes and enforce laws in order for the crime to decrease. Strong punishment will stop criminals from doing bad things again.
