Lose "baby teeth: growth: slow and steady. Social consequences: exclusion and ridicule --> later emotional and behavioral problems. Physical consequences: can grow into obese adults; diabetes and diabetic complications: obesity is preventable by recognizing the problem. Increased involvement in active play and organized sports. Developmentally, organized sports are not recommended for children younger than 6. American culture: obsessed with sports --> pride and prestige. Feel lore connected to school --> less likely to drop out. Physical injuries; stress and anxiety; violence and aggression; drug-use and delinquency. Increased ability in ne motor skills: writing improves and becomes smaller ad neater. Fine motor skills will reach adult maturity by end of middle childhood. Preoperational stage would day that the ball is in the box. 0-2: sensorimotor -- capable of coordinating the activities of the sense with motor activities. 2-7: preoperational -- capable of symbolic representation, such as in language, but with limited ability to use mental operations.
