Document Summary

Crazy- "love is a temporary insanity curable by marriage or by removal of the patient from the influences under which he incurred the disorder" Good for us- we tend to be healthier and live longer if we have living relationships with romantic partners, parents, even dogs. Hard to measure- because can be defined many different ways (e. g. wanting to be near other, concern for other, physical attraction) Sternberg"s triangular theory of love- love is comprised of three elements (may or may not be present in any given relationship): Passion- physical attraction and sexual desire motivating a person to pursue a romantic relationship. Intimacy- emotional closeness, communication, and desire to help the other. Commitment- element of choice; decision to love the other. Tends to build quickly in the early stages of the relationship, then fade with time. Not a feature of non-romantic relationships (e. g. with children) Romantic love- passion and intimacy without (before) commitment.
