Previously saw a divide between how animals were created and how humans were created. Darwin changed that and believed there is no necessary divide between humans and animals. French biologist who wanted to see how animals change. The thing the organism does in life changes/adapts and then passes it on to the next generation. Darwin is anti-lamarckian but continues to fall back on his ideals. Believes in evolution but believes it all happens in god"s hand. Playing with the idea of belief in god. Whether or not it is possible to have a water baby or not. The doasyoulikes; evolutionary narrative (if you have people who do whatever they like, what is the end result?) Eloi- "perfect" tribe that seems to live for pleasure which these characters are based upon. The last one turns into a gorilla and is shot. Anti-irish ("cant tell the truth" and are dead lazy)
