Only a producer, not a writer as well. The beatles are the most popular rock group in history, with worldwide sales estimated at 600 million. The beatles made rock the dominant pop music format that transcended age and demographic. The beatles changed the way music was recorded and presented. They combine exceptional songwriting and performing both live and in the studio. They forced the recognition of pop music as art and were forerunners of art rock. The variety of instruments they played was staggering. Lennon"s songs tended to be more complicated rhythmically, simpler melodically, and more often avant-garde. Mccartney"s songs were written more in the brill building style making endearing pop songs. They lyrics were among the most meaningful of their generation (along with those of bob dylan)
