PSYC 181 Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: The Strongest, Naturalistic Observation, Sampling Bias
Document Summary
Experimental research method- isolates causes of a behavior, tells us why. Case studies- a particular individual, the beginning phases of many kinds of research methods. Naturalistic observation- what happens in someone"s natural environment, living things change how they behave when someone is watching. If you want to see how a particular behavior unfolds you should do a naturalistic observation. Surveys- gather a ton of information in a short period of time, can gather a non-representative sample which is not good. You want a representative sample, not a biased sample. Correlation an observation that two traits or attributes are related to each other, a measure of how closely two factors vary together/ how well you can predict a change in one from observing a change in the other. Correlation coefficient a number representing how closely and in what way two variable correlate (change together)
