Document Summary
Robert sternberg"s triangular theory of love shows three major aspects of love: intimacy, passion, and commitment. These components change throughout a relationship as it develops (berk). Intimacy is the emotional component of love that involves warmth and tenderness in communication, expressions, and reciprocation (berk). Passion is the physical and psychological-arousal component (berk). Commitment is the cognitive component that allows the couple to decide if they are in love and if they can maintain that love (berk). At the beginning of a relationship romantic love or passionate love is strong (berk). This is when the couple is in the honeymoon stage, as many couples call it, and the couple is highly infatuated with each other. The beginning of the relationship causes many couples to have a lot of passion and be intimate. Sternberg states that early in the relationship passionate love can predict if the couple continues to date or end the relationship (berk).
