Behavioral and cbt approach to assessment and therapy. Key players: us -> ur dog sees food (us) and begins salivating (ur, cs -> cr bell is presented with the food (cs) and eventually the dog, watson, skinner, pavlov. Ivan pavlov classical conditioning: (cid:498)radical behaviorism(cid:499) salivates when it hears the bell (cr) B. f. skinner (most noteworthy work 1953: skinner box for rat learning research, operant or response-stimulus (rs) conditioning, behavioral theoretical context. The conditioning of voluntary behaviors (unlike salivating) The likelihood of a person"s performing a conditioned act is a function of the environment"s responses to that behavior. Behaviors that are reinforced or rewarded will increase. Behaviors that are not reinforced or not acknowledged will decrease. Behaviors can be increased by reinforcement: adding (+) something disliked, taking away (-) something liked. Positive reinforcement: while ingesting a substance a person feels euphoric, while drinking a person feels less stress and anxiety, euphoria is added it reinforces the substance use.
