In baroque music the use of rhythm and meter was very strict,rigid and insistent. This contrasted the floating music of the renaissance. Functional harmony: a structure of a piece of music in the baroque era a tool in music writing that uses chord progression to give music a sense of direction. In music, the classical style developed out of the enlightenment ideals of the mid 1700s. The enlightenment was a philosophical movement in both france and germany that focused around progressive ideals included: Where baroque rhythms was insistent and unchanging, the classical value of pleasing variety allowed for changing throughout a song. In the baroque era, technological restrictions made it so that musicians could only play either loud or quiet. Classical trends allowed for slow transitions between dynamics, also known as crescendos and diminuendos. Generally speaking each of theses eras represents a departure from traditions and experimentation with new ideas. Composers felt less bound by the demands of traditions.
