Apollo come down from the heights of olympus, his silver bow on his shoulder, its quiver frimly boxed at both ends (homer,iiiad) Often, he carries a lyre (god of music and poetic skills) The titaness leto was a mistress of zeus and was persecuted by hera. Hera decreed that no land should receive pregnant leto. Bursting with labor pains, leto wandered the earth. The two islands ( delos and ortygia) were exempt from hera"s degree they were floating islands. Apollo was born on delos, artemis on ortygia. After apollo and artemis were born, the floating islands were anchored in their present places. Delos became one of the richest and most celebrated religious shrines in greece. Wishing to establish his oracle, he arrived to the slopes of parnassus, delphi. A great serpent called python dwelled there.
