If we are going to have lives where most of our desires are fulfilled, we need to make a very important distinction between the things that are up to us and aren"t up to us. In many situations, in order to have our desires satisfied, the world has to go a certain way. One way is to have desires and see how the world unfolds and then try to change it, but we get upset easily. Another is to have things happen just as they do go with the flow : wanting things to be exactly as they are (sect. 8: a lot of our upsets are from our expectations and our beliefs of what is possible, football example. When we get upset, it is because we really thought it was possible for iowa football to win.
