What is sociology: study of groups/societies, and how they impact individuals, sociologists look at various societies, and compare them, when comparing two individuals, groups or societies, sociologists do. Not accept any biological theories instead they consider larger cultural ideas: sociologists are very interdisciplinary, they look at both macro (large global processes) and micro processes (individual relations) What is sociological imagination? (term from reading: term coined by c. wright mills, he claims there are 3 major tenets that define sociological imagination: Difference between personal troubles vs. public issues. Part of the reason is the student"s ability and talents and work ethic (personal troubles), but also due to the idea that universities now allow females and males (public issues) Personal experience and larger forces: sociologists believe choices matter, but the environment you are surrounded by determine and shape the choices you are able to make.
