Stratification-society with structure and hierarchy; divided classes: meritocracy-a society where status and mobility are based on individual attributes, ability, and achievement. We have an overwhelming belief in the us that as long as you work hard, your success is independent of the life you were born into: four forms of stratification. Estate system-a politically based system of stratification characterized by limited social mobility. You cannot break out of your royalty system; structured not based on who has the most money, but who has the most political power; family you"re born into. Caste system-a religion based system of stratification characterized by no social mobility. No mobility; if born into lower caste, you stay in it. Class system-an economically based hierarchical system characterized by cohesive oppositional groups and somewhat loose social mobility. Us system, broken up between you pay people a wage or you are getting a wage ; like bourgeoisies vs. proletariat.
