Terrorism: the unlawful use of force or violence against persons or property to intimidate or coerce a government, the civilian population, or any segment thereof, in furtherance of political or social goals. Typically these are non-governmental entities with a political grievance. Terrorism is a tactic used to influence the behavior of others through intimidation. Instilling fear in the general public (e. g. random violence against weak targets) That reaction against dissident cause to paint government as bully and arouse sympathy for the group. Terrorism is immoral, but not senseless as it does have an ultimate purpose. To state there is not is to engage in sophomoric moral relativism . One must soberly evaluate the tactics, not the stated aims of the terrorist groups. For example, debate is open on whether the advantages of the geneva convention apply to terror groups; they engage in uncivil war.
