Diagnostic testing- visual: refractometry- visual acuity. lenses on rotating wheel, flips lenses while looking at. Nursing implications cornea is numbed: fluorescein angiography- test to look at blood flow through retina blood vessels through a series of pictures. Used especially to determine severity of diabetic retinopathy and make treatment plans. Different type of contrast don"t have to worry about contrast implications! Watch for patency- it can can tissue damge to surrounding tissue. Education- can cause flushing, nausea, vomitting with dye injection. May note color changes with urine and skin after dye. Liver processes the contrast: amsler grid test- black line, grid to look for wavy, distorted, or missing areas. It is handheld and looking if the lines are distorted and it is self-administered: tonometry- used to measure intraocular pressure (iop). Calculates pressure needed to indent an area of the eye globe. Eye is numbed before procedure (anesthetic eye drops).
