Document Summary

3 layers: epicardium, myocardium- muscular inner layer, endocardium- inner layer composed of endometrium. 4 chambers: 2 atria (reservoirs, thin)- weak primer pumps for ventricles, 2 ventricles (pumps, thick)- supply main pumping force for getting blood out to body, atria and ventricles are separated by one way valves. Blood flow: right atrium - tricuspid valve - right ventricle - pulmonic valve - pulmonary arteries- lungs - pulmonary veins - left atrium - mitral valve - left ventricle - aortic valve -aorta. Starts at aortic root at the sinus of valsalva, and extends across epicardium in the atrioventricular groove. Supplies most of right atrium, right ventricle, and posterior left ventricle. Supplies inferior, 2/3 posterior, and part of lateral wall of left ventricle. Sa node (pacemaker of the heart) is supplied by rca in 65% of population. Av node is supplied by rca in 85% population. If mi in this area, hr drops bc sa node is affected.
