As social scientists we want to now start thinking how we understand a concept. A concept has a possibility of variation. All variables are concepts, but all concepts are not variables. Variable that can be explained in research. Go up & down together (vary together) One goes up, other goes down (vary inversely) Somethings that things come together doesn"t mean they caused the other. A stated relationship that we wish to test in the real world. Critical thinking goes up, racism goes down. A set of related hypotheses that suggest why events occur in the manner that they do.
