Document Summary

People can move in/out of the area you are studying: random sample. Mean everyone has equal chance being chosen. Better representation: surveys are also criticized for only obtaining information superficially. Usually good at getting broader but less depth: writing the question is very important. We want to write questions written in a neutral manner: double barrel questions. A single question deals with two issues/problems: don"t have confusing or wordy questions, writing the questions can be an advantage or disadvantage of a survey. Unobtrusive measures: no impact on who or what you are studying, content analysis. You take content and you analyze it. Might look for key words or phrase to understand the communication. Try to understand the content of that. Have no impact of who or what you are analyzing. Can be very complicated or very simple: laboratory experiment. Create an artificial situation and you observe people. Main advantage is that you control a lot of the variables.
