ANTH 001 Lecture Notes - Lecture 5: Allura Red Ac, Tartrazine, Cuvette
Document Summary
The purpose of this experiment was to extract dye from m&ms, identify the dye and then quantify the amount present using a derived standard curve. For the first part of the experiment, standard curves for each food dye color were made. The results for all of the groups are listed in the data and results section of this lab report. This following procedure describes the steps taken in order to derive the standard curve for yellow #6. The spectrophotometer was first calibrated with a blank solution of water. 20ml of 8. 953 x 10-5m yellow #6 was obtained in a 100ml beaker. The maximum wavelength was obtained by observing the graphs after spectroscopy and then looking at where all of the waves peaked. In this experiment, a maximum wavelength of 479. 8 was obtained for yellow #6. After the standard curves for all of the colors were obtained, the lilac and teal m&m"s were selected for sample testing.
