Normal cell in body has their own identity (eg. brain cell involved with brain function) In cancer, normal cells don"t listen to normal instructions - abnormal retention of self renewal. Cells will keep dividing without listening to instructions encoded in thep orgramme. Instead of becoming the terminal mature cells, they tend to have arrested differentiation (so they won"t be terminally differential ones) Deregulation of gene control arises through aberrant oncogenetic mutations/ signals, ultimately leads to aberrant gene control. Cancer can lead to mutations in tf (bind to dns seq and activate/repress certain genes) Before this, lots of the focus has been on oncogenic signalling and tf, which opens up the floodgate into changes in genetic level (genetic mutations) can be reserved by modulating downstream epigenetic changes. Because of the concept and the reversal capability of epigenetic regulation, there"s a lot of excitement around drugs that develop to target abnormaliities in epigenome.
