Document Summary

All animals learn according to the same laws. Three kinds of learning: habituation- learning system that causes us to pay attention to things that are new and less to things that are old. Similar ideas tend to excite one another. When two impressions have been frequently experienced, either simultaneously or in immediate succession, then whenever one of these impression, or the idea of it, recurs, it tends to excite the idea of the other. Greater intensity in either or both of the impressions, is equivalent to greater frequency of conjecture. Pavlov experiment: if you show dog meat, they salivate. Unconditioned stimulus (meat), unconditioned response (salivate) - unconditioned because you didn"t do anything to make that happen. Bell without meat would cause salivation- conditioned stimulus(bell), conditioned response (salivate) Extinction - make conditioning go away (present bell without meat - conditioning goes away) Started conditioning them again - the dogs learn faster.
