CMD 377 Lecture Notes - Lecture 11: Inferior Olivary Nucleus, Sulcus Limitans, Abducens Nucleus
Document Summary
Cmd 377 - lecture 11 - the brainstem: structures and functional components. Primary means for connecting information from the cortex to the spinal cord. Cranial nerves iii-xii project to or emerge from the brainstem. Various sensory and motor nuclei related to cranial nerve functions found in the brainstem. Some integrative functions organized at the level of the brainstem. Much of this is accomplished by the reticular formation. The structures on the ventral surface of the medulla. Between anterior median fissure and anterolateral sulcus. Also called inferior olives or inferior olivary nucleus. An oval swelling lateral to the anterolateral sulcus. Relay nuclei for proprioception going into the cerebellum. The structures on the dorsal surface of the medulla. Motor information is medial to sulcus limitans. Location of the abducens nucleus (cn vi) Also contains the nuclei for cn v, vi, vii, viii. Superior colliculi part of the visual pathway. Inferior colliculi part of the auditory pathway.
