Have to be able to observe something. Attempts to capture or document current conditions or things as they exist at a particular moment in time. Describe what exists at a particular moment, snapshot. Each week the us gov comes up with unemployment rate by random or questionnaires at offices, etc. Survey conducted and have to specify which candidate they prefer or want to win. Researchers are interested in discovering current situation in particular area. Attempt to describe and explain why certain conditions exist. Why does situation look they way it does, explanation. Called by a company with questionnaires and ask viewers to specify which shows they watch at a particular moment, every month or so. Most widely used with a large number of people are surveyed, obtain a cross section of population to study. At particular moment in time collection data over a swat of people (age, gender, socio economic, etc. )
