Document Summary

Cmd 276 - lecture 9 - feedback mechanisms. How a speaker controls production of speech. Device output is fed back into the system. Everything is ok - feedback is positive. A change is required - feedback is negative. 2 types of feedback systems; open and closed loop. Open output is preprogrammed, no feedback needed. Closed performance of system is fed back in for check. 4 kinds of information are available to a speaker for feedback. Hearing one"s own speech; air and bone conducted. Delayed auditory feedback (daf) was discovered in 1950. If a listener listens to his own recorded speech under a slight time delay, fluent speaker can become disfluent. Works the opposite for disfluent speakers - they become fluent with the delay. Daf seen by some as proof that speech is a servomechanism and auditory feedback is the main control.
