The Fil’s Tielie ad Plot
• directors try to make the film exciting
o they do this by limiting time of film
▪ do’t add stuff that is’t ecessary
▪ small details can be conveyed in seconds
• often a film is an average 90 minutes
o allow 30 minutes to set up the characters
▪ give audience time to meet actor
▪ gives short summary of story
o the second 30 minutes are spend
▪ building the story line
▪ this builds tension
▪ supposed to present a problem
▪ the actors have to fix
o the last 30 minutes
▪ the climax
▪ the ultimate solution
▪ the release of tension
• can be slow or quick
• the ending
o 5-10 minutes
o good ending
o wraps up
o keeps audience thinking after movie is over
