Rocks were formed elsewhere, transported by transform or convergent plate motion and then slammed into the edge of the continent. Can be mapped with a magnetometer by examining variations in magnetic intensity. More than 1,000 miles south of alaska about 45 mya. Moving northward and crashed into the embayment.
