2/21/14 Politics were replaced by individual inspirations (social, family, flapper mentality)- voting seen as old fashioned Women’s movement quieted in 1920’s Women’s clubs- less political, more social after suffrage After post war economic panic: • More homes • Better jobs • Sales go up (middle and working class can now afford) • Hours are gradually reducing (leisure time: speakeasies, movie theaters) • Promotes urbanization o Most Americans lived in Urban areas, less in farms  More leisure, closer to needs National Consumer Economy • Someone can order the same object as someone across the country • Can also hear the same music, see the same movies, etc. Importance of Youth • More school, less work o More leisure time o Friends have more impact on activities, parents have less impact Sexuality Girl -Power- Boy Courtship  Dating • Formal • Started with city immigrants • Ask parents for permission • Going out • Male asks permission to
