Document Summary

Phrenology is an old belief that bumps on the skull somehow corresponds to brain regions that are responsible for specific behavioral capacities. The neural cell nucleus carries genetic instructions encoded in dna, just like other cells in the body. In terms of the components of a neuron, dendrites are found in the input zone. Axon terminals are found in the output zone. The part of the neural cell body that integrates information from all the synapses and initiates axon impulses are called axon hillock or integration. Sensory neurons carry neural messages from peripheral sense organs to the spinal chord and brain. Monopolar or unipolar neuron is a nerve cell with a single branch that leaves the cell body and then extends in two directions; one end is the receptive pole; the other end the output zone. A multipolar neuron has many dendrites and a single axon. There is a gap of 20-40 nanometers between the pre-synaptic and post- synaptic elements.
