Genre mirrors a culture getting stories (content, subjects, and themes) from culture that are a basis for these molds/ genres. Zorro came to the rescue just as us comes to rescue in ww2 a movie about fascism. How do you communicate to audience? you get a mold/formula tell your audience something about whats going on in their life/in the culture. that"s why genres last: because they are still tapping the cultural psyche. 1948 : post war period economic boom high interest in money mirrored by the culture different type of adventure lm : hunting for money in adventure. If the culture changes, genres will undergo changes post classical/post war period: genres are coming apart. Ww2 culture went into transition: sexuality, families, etc. aesthtics went into transition. Consumers (teenagers) know so much about formulas --- because of telivision that had seen all these things and wanted to do something different.
