Leonard maltin: visual effects and scale of production. Scott, you started in the industry about a decade ago mainly in the horror genre, starting on low budget films. Scott derrickson: no hesitation taking on this film. He wanted them to be a game-changing experience: feels like visuals have become boring now, they"re always used for mass destruction now. Sd: the oath (doctor strange novel) astro-fight scene written by derrickson, based on this. Spent a lot of his own money on presentations: paid back/bought to him so that disney would actually own the material. A lot of time spent on discovery -> figuring out how to make some of these scenes happen. Synergistic creative experience: making it more and more weird. Sd: he didn"t pitch himself as a writer & director. He didn"t write the first draft of the script. Allowed him to focus on visual design ideas.
