Positive emotions can create upward spirals in behaviors and actions: Unconscious influence that the social and physical environment has on us. When covertly primed w/words related to rudeness, people are more likely to interrupt private conversations vs. people primed w/positive words. Took a group of older men and organized a 5 day retreat, made seem like everything was happening 20 years ago. Results: men performed significantly better on cognitive tests, greater concentration, attention, and memory skills. Women who think they look younger after hair styling (cut/color) resulted in having lower blood pressure, rated younger in cropped photos. Baldness linked w/prostate cancer and chronic heart disease. Older mothers live longer than younger mothers ten to (younger related age cue) Happy people watch less television (robinson and martin) Americans spent about 4 hours a day watching tv. Beyond 1 hour, happiness decreases because habituation; we adapt to the feeling.
