Ontology (n) = the branch of metaphysics dealing with the nature of being (what exist in the real world; how we categorize) Epistemology (n) = a branch of philosophy dealing with the nature of knowledge (true vs. false, belief/opinion vs. fact) Theory is always for someone and for some purpose. Post-colonialism (overly western, failed states and underdevelopment, orientalism) Can the liberal zone of peace be effectively expanded without provoking unnecessary danger and inflicting unnecessary harm? . Internationalization: does not include non-state actors; globalization is not all linear. Liberalization: not all prefer capitalist systems; resistance to companies. Universalization: not all cultures want to participate or assimilate. Globalization is a shift in the nature of social space. Need to focus on the elements of qualitative change: Transplanetary relations= shifts in frequency, scope, and depth. Eras of globalization: intimations of globalization: 15th-19th c, incipient globalization: 19th-mid 20th c, contemporary accelerated globalization: 1950s-today. Today"s globalization is not a re-run of earlier eras.
