Language surrounding female athletes has become less derogatory, and many more women are participating in sports. Title ix: requires equal participation between girls and boys in sports at schools with federal funding. Access to higher education, career education, learning environment, standardized testing. Data collected: news bulletins, headline coverage, local news and major network news. Lead stories: wnba has no coverage in the off-season, and very little in the season. Anchors: experts in the field, personal/social aspect of watching the game. Vast majority are men, but have become racially diverse. Men"s basketball (32%), football (18%), and baseball get the most coverage (followed by golf) Women"s basketball gets 2% combined main and ticket coverage. Women were oversexualized and belittled as athletes.
