This experiment was intended to figure out the f1 genotype by observing the phenotype of the. The hypothesis was stated that the f1 generation was heterozygous and this was found to be accurate. The f1 generation consisted of flies with red eyes with wings and sepia eyes without wings. The f2 generation"s observed results also did not match up with the expected results. From using the chi-square equation this allowed calculations to be made that refuted the null hypothesis that the observed would not deviate from the expected. Punnett square the f1 generation"s genes were able to be concluded and the experiment was successful. The purpose of this experiment was to determine the unknown f1 generation"s genotypes. By crossing the unknown generation and observing the traits and genotypes of these f2 generation flies this led to the determination of the f1 generation"s genotypes. Drosophila melanogaster, also known as the fruit fly, were used in this experiment.
