BIOL 243L Lecture Notes - Lecture 5: Semitendinosus Muscle, Buccinator Muscle, Infraspinatus Muscle
Document Summary
Plantar flexion= bending the foot so the toes are pointing downwards. Hyperextension= the over straightening of a joint outside of normal range. Abduction= lifting a limb away from the body. Adduction= bringing a limb towards the body. Circumduction= making a circular motion with a limb. Eversion= tilting outside of foot away from midline. Suture= the line of junction of an immovable joint between two bones, especially of the skull: coronal, lambdoid, sagittal, squamous. Symphysis= a growing together of two bones that used to be separated: ex. The two pubic bones, the two halves of the lower jaw bone, intervertebral joints. Diarthrosis= a joint that permits more or less free motion. Synovial joint= the union of the bony elements being surrounded by an articular capsule enclosed by a cavity lined by a synovial membrane. Inspiratory muscles: external intercostal muscles: elevate the ribs, enlarging the rib cage. Intercartilagenous portions of the internal intercostal muscles: elevate the ribs.
