Named for its nose (wet rhinarium: cats also have this, purpose is to enhance smell - they rely more on smell than other primates. Fewer muscles in face - less complex facial expressions: has to do with nose and upper lip and flexibility. Tooth comb - used to comb fur. No post-orbital closure: do have post orbital bar, but it does not form a full eye socket. Tapetum lucidum - reflective layer on cornea which reflects light back into the retina which allows them to see in the dark better (nocturnal) Unfused mandible - held together with cartilage. Lemuriformes (family): madagascar - only place lemurs live. Home to 5% of world"s plant and animal species. 90% endemic (they don"t live anywhere else) Most accepted hypothesis: lemur rafted from mainland of africa around. Ex: fat tailed dwarf lemur, fork marked lemur. Ex: ring tailed lemur, blue eyed lemur.
