Document Summary
Three types of learning: stimulus = anything that elicits a response, reflexes= automatic response to a stimulus, inevitable, involuntary responses to stimuli. Physician does this by tapping leg, stretches leg muscles, neurons in spinal cord: instincts= inborn patterns of behavior elicited by environmental stimuli. Fixed action patterns- inborn patterns of behavior elicited. Humans have few reflexes and instincts that most human behavior results from learning. Experience has different effects at different time s in an organism"s life span. Get used noise/ stimulus so brain ignores it. Ex: houses by a freeway; continuous stimulus that happen are easier to habituate too. Increases our reactions to a range of stimuli following exposure to strong stimulus. Overly strong response to a stimulus haven"t had in a while. Ex:more likely to overdose on heroin if done in different place. Habituation in milder stimuli, ensures don"t waste resources monitoring low priority stimuli. Occurs when we form connections among stimuli and or behavior.
