Illusion organism evolves appearance that confuses prey or predators: their predators (lions) are colorblind, appear as one large mass to discourage lions from singling. Coordination of perception and action: organism evolves appearance and action pattern triggered by one out predator"s behavior. Eye-shaped markings at opposite end of body. Predator attacks tail rather than head, allows prey to escape. Planful deception: predators learn to overcome deceptive cues that their prey use for protection behaviors. Memory allows them to retain an idea of these. Fine line between learning and intention: behavioral planning indicating that deceiver is aware that target is being misled. Sound alarm for water predator, that monkey eats food while other monkeys dash into the trees. Must conceptualize the future (as an animal) Pretense requested to see monkey in room with desired tools; when in room, ran to tools and ignored monkey.
