Issue:*sometimes*people*got*it*in*their*heads*that*you*are*supposed*to*start*off*all*kids*with*inclusion*
until*you*see*that*the*kid*isn't*performing*well.**

A*lot*of*kids*who*need*some*special*ed*services,*with*the*appropriate*attention*aid,*would*function*well.**

Most*deaf*kids,*except*for*whom*received*a*cochlear*implant*early*enough*and*it*works*well.*These*kids*
were*able*to*function*and*behave*as*a*fully*hearing*child*would*be*okay*in*a*regular*classroom.**

Most*deaf*kids*however,*would*not*function*well*in*a*regular*classroom.*They*need*more*attention*and*
a*lot*more*one*on*one.*The*classrooms*are*also*usually*way*smaller*than*a*normal*classroom*size.**

Most*deaf*kids*are*going*to*be*visually-oriented.**
They*also*have*a*developmentally*challenge*which*includes*them*being*behind*in*school.*They*have*a*
less*developed*theory*about*the*world.*They*have*less*knowledge.**Interactions*that*are*called*
incidental*learning,*where*you*learn*from*just*asking*random*questions*about*random*things*in*life.*
These*conversations*are*critical*in*order*so*that*they*can*survive*school.**

A*communication*barrier*is*a*real*educational*challenge.**

One*thing*had*to*happen*was*state*school*districts*had*to*figure*out*how*they*were*going*to*provide*this*
continuum*thing*for*deaf*kiddos.**

Mainstreaming:**
Educating*children*with*disabilities*in*regular*educational*settings.*

Each*individual*child's*IEP*(blue*print*for*how*they*will*be*learning),*they*will*determine*how*they*will*
provide*a*free*educational*setting*for*said*child*in*the*least*restrictive*setting.**
