Who Is at Fault?
• Difficult to blame sources even though they are morally and ethically wrong when they lie.
• It is our job as reporters to dig deeper and verify the truth.
Questions About Reporter
• Was Erdely inexperienced? No.
• What reporting Challenges did she face?
• What was her central dilemma?
• She thought she had her hands on a huge story, so she went with the source without ever questions their
legitimacy.
• Mistakes came when the reporter had a preconceived notion about a story that led her to error.
