[PSYCHOLOGY IN THE NEWS] The more the newborn is touched by its parents, the healthier the kid is in terms of physical health and long-term mental health. [AFTER BENCHMARK] What is the adaptive function of emotion? It’s the psychological side of making us do more of the things that are good for us, and less of the things that are bad for us. There is a number of systems people use for making sense of the different emotions:  Dimensional approach o Classify emotions in terms of whether they are positive or negative  Intensity o How strong that emotion is  Duration o How long they last Basic emotional research: researchers have gone to remote areas to see if basic emotions are known even to these isolated places  Characteristic facial expression  Sensation (psychological state)  Physiological response Emotion muscle groups:  Corrugator muscle
