Economic money and material assets (houses, cars, etc. ) Social group memberships, relationships, networks of influence and support. The sum of resources a person or group has because of their connections with others. Connections that produce norms and reciprocity (and trustworthiness that arise from them) Complex & elaborately articulated doctrines such as islam, christianity, or confucianism. Social capital helps maintain social inequalities within society. A society of many virtuous but isolated individuals is not necessarily rich in social capital. A number of key sources of social capital are to be found in every community, albeit in differing amounts and at differing levels: Families, communities, firms, civil society, the public sector, ethnicity, gender.
