People are who make privilege happen through actions and words. Prejudice is complicated, it involves both ideas and feelings. Privilege involves everyone in one way or another. The need to be seen and included and accepted is one of the most powerful or human needs. Inclusion and acceptance are a big part of privilege. There are many choices people make in order for people to feel included: Avoidance, exclusion, rejection, and devaluing are usually only noticed by those who experience them. Racism isn"t the only form of oppression and exclusion. There is a wide epidemic of violent threats. Privilege infects both out outer and inner lives. Privilege stands between us and a world where every person has the best chance of survival. Positions of dominant groups don"t seem to be weakening. People in privileged groups don"t get to escape negative consequences. Whites don"t realize that racism effects their own lives. No matter who you are, the trouble is your trouble.
