NSC 4366 Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: Middle Frontal Gyrus, Inferior Frontal Gyrus, Superior Temporal Gyrus
Document Summary
Structure of the nervous system and cells of the nervous system. Right hemisphere- facial recognition, spatial manipulation, musical ability, emotional processing. Fissure long line of breakage separating things. Frontal lobe primary motor and premotor cortex. Corpus callosum radiating pattern of efferent and afferent nerve fibers connecting cerebral cortex and subcortical structures. Water diffuses directionally according to the axons. Internal capsule dense sheet of white matter deeper in the hemisphere where fibers are concentrated. Each of the hemisphere: responds to sensory stimulation from contralateral side of the body, controls musculature. Sensory information: special senses cranial nerves 1,2,7,9,8, general senses touch, pressure, temperature, posture. Cell bodies in gray matter of spinal cord/ brains stems. Form descending tracts running through the brain stem and spinal cord. Include vestibular and reticular nuclei: in brain stem, influence spinal motor neurons, vestibular and reticulospinal tracts, control of muscle tone and posture.
